About
The project ‘Exploration’, which was placed at the Colebrook Day Service in Redhill, Surrey, (from March – July 2009), intended to expand and sustain an engagement with visual art processes for people with learning disabilities, usually excluded from art projects. The project helped people, to express ideas and make informed choices through a variety of creative media.
The project ‘Exploration’, is a collaboration between Nickova Behling (founder of project and lead artist) and Sue Sargeaunt (co-artist) , two visual artists who met during a previous project (The Colebrook Chronicles Jan-June 2008).
‘Exploration’, was a pilot project for the artists, in which they have aimed to achieve high quality processes and outcomes as well as to combine and to develop artistic skills with care support skills. Whilst experienced in working with people with learning disabilities, it was the first time that the artists have delivered workshops for people with severe multiple needs and presented an opportunity to develop a range of methods to work with people with different levels of disability. In the longer term they hope to enhance artistic expertise for future projects in similar settings.
