Exploration Phase 2
Exploration Phase 2 will publicly share outcomes and methods used in Exploration (visual art workshops with people with learning disabilities and multiple needs, 2009 – see ‘Summary’).
Four consecutive exhibitions are planed at different locations in Surrey, all linked by a programme of workshops, talks and documentation through film, photography and Exploration website.
Our first exhibition was at the Belfry Shopping Centre, Redhill, Surrey, in October 2011 (for details please see ‘Belfry Exhibition’)
The next two exhibitions are planned to be at the Leatherhead Theatre, Church Street, Leatherhead, Surrey, in March 2012 and the Cranleigh Arts Centre, 1 High Street, Cranleigh, Surrey, in April 2012
Plus a possible follow-up project at the James Hockey Gallery at UCA (University for the Creative Arts) Falkner Road, Farnham, Surrey,GU9 7DS, later in the year of 2012.
Each exhibition will be customised based on different outcomes and participants of the Exploration project. The work will include artwork produced during Exploration, work produced in collaboration by the artists, and work produced during Nickova Behling’s residency of Memory Traces at the Colebrook Chronicles (the inspiration for Exploration) in the following arrangements:
- Examples of work on canvas from Exploration participants Portrait-Group and work from Sue and Nickova
- Portrait Group, a variety of outcomes, (moderate learning disability)
- Exploration work on canvas, paper and board, (severe learning disability with different level of support need)
- Work from Sue and Nickova’s collaboration paintings, also Chronicles (Memory Traces) presenting the aspect of collaboration on different levels.
A continuous slide show at each exhibition will present the overall process of Exploration. We also provide a Saturday taster workshop and one evening of discussion forum, open to the public.
